Edward O. Proske, of Anderson Township, a lifelong musician who played with dance bands in the big band era, died Tuesday at VistaCare Hospice. He was 95. A native of St. Louis, Proske worked for the Hartford Insurance Co. for 46 years, including in Evansville, Ind., and Cincinnati where he was a district engineer. He played tuba and bass fiddle in dance bands in St. Louis in the big band era, and later played piano as well for the Sutton Swingers here from 1983-98. He also repaired string instruments for the Forest Hills School District in his basement workshop. He was a member of the Mt. Washington United Methodist Church, where he played piano for Sunday School classes in the 1960s.Proske was also a ham radio operator and in 1997 was honored for holding a ham radio license for 75 years. He was a member of the Eastern Hills Rod & Gun Club, and was a Mason and a Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Catherine; three sons, Ed Proske, of Brady Lake, Ohio., Bob, of Cleveland, and Louis, of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren." |
